Notes on Patience – Blessings from the Lord

Patience is something that is tested in my life every day. I thought that perhaps it would be a good idea for me to begin a study that was a bit more in depth so that I could know how to gain a self-mastery that I do not have right now. In the guide to the scriptures on lds.org it says that patience is “calm endurance” or “the ability to endure affliction, insult, or injury without complaint or retaliation.” I love that it says more than just enduring through something. It uses the word calm, which I don’t think I would consider myself to be very much these days. I tend to worry and look at all the negative possibilities that may come from any experience. This gets me worked up with anxiety that often keeps me from sleeping well and being fully there for others that need me. So, therefore the first thing I see that I need to work on to improve my patience, is being more calm. The great thing about this, is that it makes perfect sense to achieving greater patience in life. I hope that my readers will enjoy following this series of posts on patience and that it may help someone else out there, as much as it has helped me.

Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. (Psalms 37:7)

  • I need to be more patient with the Lord. He will bless me according to my choices. I must not focus on others having the things that I desire in this life, even when they are good things. The Lord will bless me temporally with the things that I need and he will bless others with what they need. Worrying about what others have, is not restful.

    About My Scripture Study Buddy

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I love the scriptures, but I am not a scriptorian. I've been told that I'm too "deep" for some, but if you are willing, I'd love to have others join me in my quest for a greater understanding of the gospel. Please feel free to leave me comments and hopefully we can help each other to learn.

    Testimony
